SportFishing in Flamingo, Costa Rica
Inshore & Offshore Fishing Trips with Boos Adventures
Costa Rica is blessed with some of the best fishing in the world. While it’s famously known for offshore fishing from Flamingo/Potrero Beach, this region also offers thrilling inshore fishing around the stunning nearby islands.

Here’s the information on the most common fish to catch in Costa Rica, both inshore and offshore.

Most Common Fish for Inshore Fishing in Costa Rica:
 * Roosterfish: These are highly sought after for their strong fight and distinctive comb-like dorsal fin. You’ll find them in shallow waters, often near rocks and the shoreline.
 * Snapper: Several snapper species are common, including Cubera Snapper, Spotted Snapper, and Colorado Snapper. They’re excellent eating fish and put up a good fight. Look for them around rocky structures, reefs, and estuaries.
 * Jack Crevalle: Very strong and aggressive fish that offer an intense battle. They’re often found in schools near the coast, in estuaries, and mangroves.
 * Grouper: Various species of grouper inhabit the coastal waters, providing exciting fishing and great flavor. They typically live on rocky bottoms and reefs.
 * Mackerel: Fast, silvery fish often found in schools, perfect for lure fishing and light trolling.
Most Common Fish for Offshore Fishing in Costa Rica:
 * Sailfish: Costa Rica is famous for its abundant sailfish, especially on the Pacific coast. They’re known for their acrobatic jumps and beauty, and are often caught and released.
 * Marlin (Blue Marlin and Striped Marlin): The Blue Marlin is a true trophy fish, and Costa Rica is one of the best places in the world to catch them. Striped Marlin are also common and offer an exciting fight.
 * Dorado/Mahi-Mahi: These colorful fish are very popular due to their speed, acrobatic leaps, and excellent meat. They’re often found near sargassum lines and floating debris.
 * Yellowfin Tuna: Yellowfin tuna are powerful and provide a long, challenging fight. You’ll find them in large schools further offshore.
 * Wahoo: Known for their incredible speed and sharp teeth, wahoo are highly prized fish for high-speed trolling.
I hope this information is very helpful for your next fishing adventure in Costa Rica! Good luck and have a great time!
